PEACE Press Release: Environmental Footprints of High-Pressure Alkaline Electrolysis
Published: October 30, 2026

The PEACE project has released a new press release presenting the key findings of its Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) of high-pressure alkaline electrolysis. The assessment, led by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), explores the environmental performance of the PEACE hydrogen production concept and the potential benefits of producing hydrogen directly at pressures of up to 90 bar.
The press release highlights the dominant role of electricity supply in the overall environmental footprint of hydrogen production, while also presenting the potential climate-change impact reductions achieved by avoiding downstream hydrogen compression. It features insights from Prof. Thomas Højlund Christensen of DTU Sustain, who led the LCA work, and underlines the importance of considering environmental performance alongside the technical and economic aspects of emerging hydrogen technologies.
The press release complements our recent article, Environmental footprints of high-pressure alkaline electrolysis, which provides a closer look at the assessment and its main findings.
