  • PEACE Project at International Energy and Environment Conference: 7-9 September 2026

Published: September 4, 2026

The PEACE project will be represented at the International Energy and Environment Conference, taking place on 7-9 September in Ostravice, in the Beskid Mountains, Czechia.

PEACE project Coordinator Dr. Fatemeh Razmjooei (Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics, German Aerospace Center, DLR) will deliver a presentation entitled: “Advances in Alkaline Water Electrolyzer Technology: Enhancing Efficiency and Dynamic Performance for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy”.

In her presentation, Dr. Razmjooei will explore approaches to improving the operational flexibility, efficiency and reliability of alkaline water electrolyzers under fluctuating operating conditions. Particular emphasis will be placed on dynamic and partial-load operation, gas crossover and gas purity, highlighting how transient simulation and optimised operational strategies can support safer and more efficient electrolyzer operation across a wider range of loads.

Her presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 14:30 – 14:45 in Room 2.

Additionally, Hans Wiggenhauser, a PhD candidate at DLR, will present initial findings in a poster entitled "Transient Simulation of Alkaline Electrolysis From Atmospheric to High Pressure", which will bedisplayed on Tuesday, 8 September.

Hans’ research focuses on transient simulation of pressurized electrolysis. Pressurized electrolysis can improve overall system efficiency by reducing the need for mechanical compression, as compressing liquid water prior to isothermal conversion requires considerably less energy than compressing hydrogen gas. Using DLR’s Modelica library TEMPEST, the researchers simulated a 5 MW electrolysis system to investigate operational challenges under dynamic, part-load conditions at elevated pressures. The simulation models provide insights for developing effective control strategies, evaluating design modifications and supporting future techno-economic assessments of high-pressure hydrogen generation.
